Ron Stephens was a crew member of HMS Tarana, a special duties ship operating between Gibraltar and the South of France.
HMS Tarana was a Dutch built trawler requisitioned by the Royal Navy. It would sail from harbour in one colour and then be painted at sea, before being repainted on it's return to harbour!
